16:16 "Stewart has put up some wedding photos and a story."

15:38 We arrived yesterday in a tropical Vienna, very sunny and humid with temperatures somewhat above 30C! Yay!

In my bag there´s a miniDV tape: I got from my students as a departure present and it carries a very moving video sequence of farewells and thankyous put together by Remco Oude Alink. It is really really nice. One day bandwith will be a laughable issue and all these cool documents will end up here, where they belong.

A far less electronic farewell present was given to me the week before by Karen Mijnhart: a stone brought by her dad from the Himalayas. Karen remembered I once said I left Brasil to go to Tibet and that I never made it past Hong Kong. The stone is a good-luck-with-the-rest-of-your-plan gesture. It´s a reminder and its timing is perfect (thinking back I wonder if it helped trigger my reevaluation-devaluation plan (see last Monday´s entry)).

18:34 Tomorrow will be my last day as a teacher at the Arnhem academy. I´ve been teaching (and learning) there for the last two years and I now feel the need to spend some more time and energy on self-initiated projects. As it normally goes when things are about to end, I started appreciating my contact with the students and the whole school environment quite some more in the last few weeks. It feels clearer, sharper. I hope to maintain some sort of tie with the school in the future.

The day after tomorrow I leave for a short pool/bath tour though Vienna, Budapest and Vals, Switzerland. Karl and Yan will be hosting us once again in Vienna. In 1999 we drove there, all the way from Amsterdam, in search of a good spot to witness the total solar eclipse of August 11. Most of Europe was too cloudy that day but we were lucky enough to have a very clear view from the top of a hill in Graz, one hour or so from Vienna.

1999: Rog is about to emerge as an island in the Danube.

09:23 Current plan: to deflate some things, make time less precious, devaluate stuff I value in excess – and then see what happens.

08:44 Some of the closest, nicest people are far, far. I am used to it but it does take its toll. And to think that one day pretty much everybody I knew lived in the same continent, same country even. City!
Move and remember, previous life, world of next.
