Thursday, November 04, 2004 22:07 history repeating (from Lee Virgilio, in Mexico) (...) part of a letter that Jefferson sent in 1798 after the passage of the Sedition Act. "A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt....If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake." link

15:13 Sad, incredible, dramatic, unfair, mind-boggling, true. Some things are so strangely connected you would swear they're either not true, of were written by a perverse genius (Almodovar, Egoyan). link

Tuesday, November 02, 2004 19:19 World - here - today did you hear (you probably did) about the grotesque murder of Dutch filmmaker/columnist Theo van Gogh this morning? (CNN - BBC) This morning, a short while after the news spread (before I even knew of it) I was leaving a hardware store here in the Leidseplein area when, from a group of older Dutch men that were yakking at the store counter, someone muttered 'kanker marrokaan' as I was about to leave. There was no one else in the store. (literally 'cancer Moroccan', meaning 'fucking Moroccan') the taste of it. brrrr. I am now going to the Dam to join the memorial/vigil/protest organised by the city council. link

01:33 tv/radio/layers/evilpresidentmustgo. I don't remember tv news being ever this exciting. I go on applying layers of this and that over floors or walls, creating dust and garbage then trying to get rid of it, and the news goes on blabbering in the background, like the 'momentos decisivos' of ten simultaneous soaps. It will be an autumn to remember (hopefully with joy). We want our world back! Come on guys, get the evil man out of there! link
